What Does Fostering a Dog Involve?
When you foster with The Florida Cat & Dog Project, you’re opening your heart and home to a dog in need. Fostering means providing love, care, and stability for a homeless pet until they’re ready to be adopted into their forever family. Sometimes that’s a few weeks, other times a bit longer - but every single day you give makes a difference.
Why Do We Need Foster Homes?
There are so many reasons a dog might need a foster home, and each one is important:

Some puppies are simply too young to be adopted and need a safe, loving place to grow.

Dogs recovering from surgery, illness, or injury need a quiet environment to heal.

Some dogs have never lived inside a home before and need help adjusting to family life.

Others may have experienced neglect or trauma and need patience, consistency, and socialization.

And sometimes, it’s as simple as giving us the extra space we need to say “yes” to another rescue.

How to Become a Foster
It starts with our Foster Pre-Application. This form helps us make sure it’s a good fit between you, your family (including your own pets), and the foster dog. Fostering is not always easy - it takes patience and sometimes letting go of a dog you’ve grown to love. But it is always worth it.
For the shy puppy who learns trust, the senior who needs comfort after losing their family, or the stray who’s finally safe indoors - you are their bridge to a better life.
